REAL SIMPLE Interview 9 Fall Dress Trends You’re About to See Everywhere, According to Stylists

With the office siren trend picking up speed along with the call back to the office, fashionistas have increasingly embraced corporate-meets-lingerie style. Fashion consultant Amanda Jane Valentine suggests sustainably rethinking your own wardrobe by repurposing negligees—like a lacy, silk slip paired with an oversize cashmere sweater.

“I love how nonchalant this trend feels, there’s a range of ways to participate and not feel like you’re heading to a pajama party,” Valentine says. “Start small with experimenting and see where it takes you. Remember, mixing high-low is a good balance. If your lingerie-inspired piece feels very formal, make sure to pick a super cozy and down-to-earth sweater to pair it with. If your slip feels hyper sexy, then pair it down with an androgynous tailored blazer.”

BYRDIE Interview Summer’s Hot Trend, Food-Inspired Fashion, written by Ellen Ricks.

Thrilled to be a featured expert in Byrdie's recent article on the Summer's hot trend, Food-Inspired Fashion, written by Ellen Ricks. I explain why this trend feels so desirable right now, what it says about the economy, and how you can stay trendy while making sustainable choices (and saving a buck).

“Amanda Jane Valentine, founder of AJ Valentine Consulting, also notes the influence of other niches. "The #tomatogirl is a growing niche with artfully drawn vegetables and a nod to 1950s style," she says. "It encompasses the joy of living so many of us aspire to have."

Summer weather may also play a part in the rise of foodcore, with its focus on foods like fruits, vegetables, seafood, Americana staples like hot dogs and popcorn, and Italian cuisine. Gerard also thinks the trend may be a response to winter’s quiet luxury aesthetic: "Dabbling in minimalism was fun for a bit, but we’re ready to experiment with fun, kitschy details and prints," she says. "Summer is the perfect time for this trend to expand, and with Sabrina Carpenter's 'Espresso' music video mirroring the 1950s aesthetic, it’s reached the early height of its influence," Valentine adds.

Valentine calls London-based Chopova Lowena a “favorite new brand in the high fashion world….Their iconic pleated carabiner skirts are made from deadstock textiles, along with other pieces in their collections,” says Valentine.”
